look at the stars beneath my feet ,I REMEMBER THE RIGHTS THAT I DID WRONG, SO HERE I GO. Heavy metal blasted into both of Flick’s ears, the sound probably audible to anyone near enough to the teenager. He body lay straight on the soft sand of La Push’s first beach, her mp3 player resting on her bare stomach, exposed because of her bikini clad skin. The sun was out, for once, though she donned a pair of oversized sunglasses to block its rays out of her vision and additionally her eyes were closed behind them. Almost complete darkness in the middle of the day. It wasn’t that Flick wanted to make the most of the sunshine, more she wanted yet another escape and La Push wasn’t too far away from her home to make anyone worry unnecessarily. The less time spent at her house, the better. It was a bit like hell, only without the devil sitting on his throne, laughing. Though she could imagine it; perhaps too easily.
She wasn’t really listening to the random assortment of music on her mp3, it was useful to act as white noise, blocking everything else out. Everything from the gentle waves and the excited chatter of the other people making the most of the beach, to her suffocating thoughts. If she could move out of her house, she would have done by now, but she wasn’t yet old enough to do so. Her brother on the other hand, could very well leave their parents home, but chose not to. He didn’t want to leave Flick alone, nor did he want to be her guardian, much to Felicity’s annoyance. She hadn’t actually seen him for a day or so, assuming he was taking respite at a friend’s house or something for the meantime. He rarely disappeared for long, so she never worried like he did when she took a little adventure. Their relationship at least, was normal in their family.
Saturdays were always the busiest day of the whole week, school was out for the two days of the weekend and Flick had managed to get the day off of work. Mike had been very understanding of her sudden bug that had her throwing up all night, and that all she wanted to do was curl up and die. Lies rolled off her tongue far too easily. You could say she was a natural, though you could also say it ran in the family. Her father of course was the most compulsive liar she had ever known, that was until he gets caught out; though these days there was nothing left to hide. It wasn’t often that she lied to Mike anyway, Flick liked him; he was a pretty good person. A rarity nowadays and Flick could be considered a prime example. Never had she claimed she was one of the ‘good ones’, she certainly wasn’t a golden child, the apple of her parents eye. No, that was Nathan’s role to play in the game of their life.
Her fingers itched for a smoke, the single cigarette in the pocket of her denim shorts had survived for two weeks untouched, but she still took it with her wherever she went. Her lighter had many other uses, so it was habit to carry it around with her, she never knew when it could come in useful for something other than lighting a cig. Flick wasn’t trying to quit smoking, she was never addicted in the first place, at least that’s what she claims. It was a habit she had picked up from the occasional times she saw Nathan smoking, and now she lit a cigarette almost every time she got stressed or emotional. That was quite often, so maybe she really was addicted. Instead of reaching for the tobacco containing stick, her fingers picked up the mp3 player and switched the song to something more aggressive. Returning the music player to her stomach, she raised her sunglasses a little and scouted the beach. She squinted in response to the brightness and then replaced the glasses back over her eyes; becoming oblivious to her surroundings once more.

I've felt the hate rise up in me Kneel down and clear the stone of leaves I wander out where you can't see Inside my shell, I wait and bleed Saturday afternoon, and Shane could hardly stand to be all cooped up in his bedroom on a day like this. He usually does not care, he would rather play his guitar and maybe read a book. But today seemed to be an exception, as he was pacing all around his room. He let out a sigh escape past his lips, as he ran his hands through his shaggy hair and bit his lip. He glanced around his room, then went to his closet and slowly threw open the doors. He grabbed a pair of athletic shorts, a green t-shirt, and shut the doors. The sounds of slipknot was playing on his boombox, as he then slipped out of his sweats and tossed them into the hamper. Shane slipped on his shorts, and then his t-shirt. He heaved a sigh, his head bobbing to the music. He has been listening to them quite a bit lately. He went over to his dresser, as he started to sing along a little. 'Kneel down and clear the stone of leaves...I wander out where you can't see..Inside my shell, I wait and bleed..' He threw on some deodorant and put on his leather bracelet, to cover up the scar on his right wrist. He took a deep breath, taking a look at himself in the mirror. He nodded his head, turning to grab some socks out of his dresser and put them on. Sneakers next, slipping them on one by one and tying them up. Shane reached and grabbed his keys and cellphone, just in case his aunt or sister needed to reach him. He turned off his boombox and then headed out of his room, slowly closing the door behind him. When he was outside, he walked right over to his black chevy cavalier and climbed inside. He took a deep breath, his hands gripping the steering wheel. Shane then grabbed his sunglasses from the glove compartment, a moment came and went as he put them on. Another second passed, while he put his key into the ignition and started up the car. Within minutes, Shane was out on the road and the radio was playing "Feels like tonight" by Daughtry. He didn't really where he was going nor did he care, all that he knew was that he was getting out of the house. His hands gripped the wheel, while his head bobbed with the radio. He was new to these parts, so he wasn't sure what was there all around here to do for fun. Like he has any friends here to go out and have fun with, anyway. His only best friend's dead, his mom. Tears threatened to appear in his eyes, but Shane managed to keep them at bay. He would not let himself cry, not right now anyway. He has to be strong for Carrie, she is his little sister. A while has passed, and somehow Shane was in La Push. He remembered passing through here, while on his way to Forks with his aunt and sister. He came to a stop, pulling into First Beach. He shut the car off, climbing out of it and shut the door. Shane went about three steps, before he remembered to lock up his car. He went back, spotting his book of the week right on the passenger seat. He reached in and then grabbed it, as he hit the lock on the door. Can't be too careful, Shane thought to himself, as he headed out onto the beach. He saw quite a few people here, since it was a Saturday. He inhaled slow and deep, as he continued. Sneakers and socks aren't so appropriate for the beach, but he didn't really care. The sun felt nice and warm on his back, as he walked. Shane kept on walking, until he came across a bikini-clad girl lying on the sand with a music player on her stomach. No one was there in that spot, except for her, so he decided to sit there. His butt in the sand and one knee propped up, Shane opened up to where he left off and started reading "On the Road" by. Jack Kerouac. It seemed interesting enough. He sighed, as a half-smile played upon his lips. A light breeze blew past, his hair being ruffled a bit in the process. OOC: Hope you don't mind me joining in...

hello, hello. There is no place I cannot go, MY MIND IS MUDDY BUT MY HEART IS HEAVY. DOES IT SHOW? The soft sand beneath her body combined with the harsh sounds that penetrated her ears via the music player, relaxed Felicity greatly. Her mind was empty, consumed and distracted by the heavy metal music, which overwhelmed her mixed thoughts that were laced with many intertwining emotions. The beach was a serene environment once all the people were blocked out from it, though that was true for most places within the world as the increasing population filled every inch with noise from every angle. If it wasn’t the pointless gossip between people, it was the excessive sounds emitting from the various pieces of modern day technology that were implanted into everything. Felicity didn’t pride herself with her weakness to music, as she refused utilising televisions and computers as much as physically possible, music however was a necessity that she wouldn’t live without. Though, this was not so much because she enjoyed it, but because it gave her a sense of release that was less noticeable and less self destructive than smoking or drinking.
To everyone on the beach, Flick looked the perfect image of someone who had fallen asleep in her attempt to bask in the suns warming rays, but though her eyes were closed and her glasses were in place, she was wide awake and relatively alert to her direct surroundings. She cared not for the screaming kids that were filling the large stretch of sand as she could barely even hear them over the music that pulsed through her earphones. Flick had no patience for children, she felt they caused a lot more hassle than they were actually worth and didn’t intend on having any of her own. She didn’t have a life plan like many others her age did; those who knew what they wanted to study at college or what career they wanted, and those who aimed to leave school and wed their high school sweetheart, settle down and pop out a couple of kids. Neither of which were Felicity’s idea of fun. Instead Flick rolled with whatever was thrown her way, with no real direction if where she was heading in the long run; she had no future, or at least not a planned one. Most likely she would end up in a dead end job that she hated, or perhaps she would end up in jail once she went insane because of her parents. She didn’t really care which.
She felt a presence beside her, felt the movement as they sat down on the beach, but heard nothing. Flick figured the beach must have increased in its temporary population during the time she had blocked it out, seeing as someone had actually chosen to be anywhere near her. She debated whether she could be bothered to open her eyes to see who the invader of her personal space was, and curiosity got the better of her as it normally did. Her blue eyes opened slowly, still shaded by her sun glasses that were blacked out enough that nobody would be able to see she was watching them unless she made it obvious.
Her eyes fell on a brown haired teenager, perhaps similar to her age though he appeared older, his green eyes were transfixed onto the pages of the book that he held carefully in his hands. It must have been a good book for his lips were curled into a pleasant smile that complimented his softly chiselled face. Flick removed her sunglasses and propped them on top of her head for the meantime, now able to see the colours in their true vibrant forms that were not marred by the discolouration that her shades had made her perceive the world. She tilted her head and cast her eyes to the front cover of his book to read the title, of which she had never even heard of. Flick didn’t care about being subtle as she stared at Shane; she found it fun sometimes to see how long it took people to notice that her gazing eyes were centred upon them and then their reaction to it, which wasn’t always pleasant though highly amusing for her. Whilst she stared at him, her fingers reached for her mp3 player and lowered the volume enough so she could hear what was going on around her without muting it entirely. A small smile adorned her lips at Shane’s concentrated face; and waited. said he'd seen my enemy. said he looked just like me, SO I SET OUT TO CUT MYSELF AND HERE I GO. tag; shane words; 734 wearing; this credits; template by delilahh @ CAUTION!, lyrics to "same mistake" by james blunt notes; im glad you joined (:

I've felt the hate rise up in me Kneel down and clear the stone of leaves I wander out where you can't see Inside my shell, I wait and bleed Shane never thought of reading "On the Road" before, until it was suggested to him by a random guy at a bookstore. He came across it on a shelf and started reading the back cover of it, when a man walked past. "Good book, man. Give it a try.." he had said, and Shane decided to take the man's advice. And that man may have been right. He took a deep breath, turning to the next page. Shane stole a brief glance at the girl lying near him, earbuds in her ears and a pair of sunglasses shielding her eyes from the sun. He could not help but notice her a little, though he couldn't see what color her eyes were. He slowly turned his attention towards his book, gently biting his lip. She is indeed pretty, he thought to himself. A few moments came and went, as another breeze blew past him and ruffled his shaggy hair a bit. Then, Shane began to feel like he was being watched. He tried to ignore it for a bit, focusing on his book, but he couldn't get past more than just a few sentences. Out of the corner of his eye, Shane glanced over at the girl lying nearby..and caught her staring right at him. He glanced away from the girl, as he felt his cheeks slowly heating up. He hoped he wasn't starting to blush, not now in front of a girl he doesn't even know. Shane can't help but be a shy person, it's in his nature. He ran a hand slowly through his hair. He had noticed that the girl had taken off her sunglasses, now he could see her eyes. And he must say, she does have nice eyes. Shane carefully marked his place in the book, closed it, and set it down beside him. He managed a half-smile, as he then turned towards her. 'Hello..' Shane said, trying to be friendly. He is new here, so why not at least try to strike up a conversation with someone. Who knows? He might end up making a new friend, in the process. OOC: Thanks

i'm not calling for a second chance, I’M SCREAMING AT THE TOP OF MY VOICE Felicity did not whether the book he was reading was a modern one, as she tended to stay away from the trash that people wrote these days that normally involved some kind of traumatic incident that screws a person up so bad that they somehow find solace in a new lovers arms or goes on a killing rampage. She enjoyed Shakespeare and Edgar Allen Poe, scripts that were rarely seen other than in the vicinity of a classroom, at home she was halfway through Dracula (the original one) and was so far thoroughly enjoying it. Flick didn’t look quite the type who read for pleasure, but perhaps she was a little old fashioned in the way she disregarded most forms of technology. She would rather not waste her time watching the truly terrible programmes that were on television, that predominantly involved cameras inside people’s houses, which made her wonder what sad lives they must lead to be that desperate. There were also the families that decided to solve their problems in front of a live audience as well as half the nation, of which were of no concern to anybody else but yet they would still be frequently watched by people who wanted to see what a TV presenter could do that a plain psychiatrist couldn’t. It was similar with books, the modern age was strife with celebrity biographies that broadcast their tragic lives involving sex, drugs and rock and roll, to make members of the general public feel like they know them. It was ridiculous.
There was nothing like the burning that a person got from another’s stare, it was amusing really how the subconscious made a person so paranoid that they could swear they felt something. The subtle twitches from his body gave him away, he knew and yet he waited a while longer before he actually looked at her. There was a flush of crimson that rose to the surface of his cheeks showing his brief moment of embarrassment so perhaps he wasn’t used to being looked at. Flick didn’t see why not, because he was pretty easy on the eyes, and hers had seen a lot. He must be shy, otherwise he wouldn’t have turned from her when he realised she was looking straight at him to try and hide the blush that had formed across his face.
“Hello.” She replied in response to his greeting, and her lips curled into a mischievous smile whilst her icy eyes brightened just a little. She might be able to have a bit of harmless fun with this one; she liked the shy ones sometimes because they often got nervous and uncomfortable to her rather forward personality. Guys that were cocky and overly confident had their uses of course; Flick enjoyed humouring them mostly so their egos grew to twice their original size. She removed the earplugs entirely and shut down her music player, grimacing a little at the extra noise that surrounded her on the beach that smothered the natural sounds of the seas waves. Carefully Flick wrapped the earphone cord around the oval device and then flung it on top of her small pile of clothing, lying back flat on her back again once she was sure it wouldn’t be filled with sand. She kept her eyes open and tilted her head so she could still see the boy, keeping her smooth bare skin open to the suns penetrating rays, which was now glistening from the heat. “I’m Flick.” She introduced, seeing as she couldn’t tell how vocal this newcomer would be, so she figured she would get the ball rolling in case he was too shy to say anything else to her, because where would the fun be in that? I've felt the hate rise up in me Kneel down and clear the stone of leaves I wander out where you can't see Inside my shell, I wait and bleed Someone once said that eyes are the window to the soul, and noticing a little something in this girl's eyes, Shane couldn't help but gently bit his lower lip and then let a little sigh slip past his lips. He wasn't used to girls looking at him like that, he never really considered himself as good-looking. A breeze blew past, lightly ruffling his hair a little. "Hello." the girl replied, his half-smile slowly returning. Shane glanced away for a moment, his gaze focusing upon the waves while they crashed onto the shore. "I'm Flick." The girl's voice slowly pulled his gaze right back to her and a moment of silence passed. He noticed that she took the earbuds out of her ears and put her mp3 on top of her clothing, so that no sand gets into it. With a little nod of his head, Shane slowly held out his hand to Flick. He took a deep breath, before he spoke. "Shane." he answered. He could feel the knots starting to form within his stomach, shyness kicking in. Then, the sound of laughter had seemed to draw his attention and he slightly turned his head to one side. Shane could see a little kid, laughing with his mom, as they try to build a sand castle. He bit his lip, his mom's face briefly flashing inside his mind. He missed her a lot, even thinks about her sometimes when he's alone in his room. Coming back from his moment down memory lane, Shane remembered that Flick was still there behind her and he turned back to look at her. "So..do you live around here?" he then asked, somewhat wondering if she lived here in La Push or back in Forks.

i try to see but im blinded by the white light I CANT REMEMBER HOWShe gazed across to the open ocean, watching the soft waves rise up onto the sandy beach and sink back to return to the salty waters that stretched out for thousands of miles. People could be seen bobbing up and down in the water, their heads tiny in comparison to the vast space of blue that extended out behind them. Flick vaguely remembered times when she was younger, only a child, that she had come to first beach every other week during the summer with her mother and brother. Her father never came, he was always far too busy to bother to spend too much time with his family, but that was just how it was and how it remained. Felicity didn’t mind too much, not once she realised that he wasn’t a very nice person after all and her disappointment was a dull ache that sat on her tired heart and became a numb feeling that she couldn’t feel anymore. That was life.
His muscles tensed ever so slightly, the ever observant girl noticed, her keen eyes latched back onto the young man’s handsome face. She smirked as her assumption was confirmed, that he truly was the nervous type as he appeared a little more uncomfortable since she had spoken to him. She couldn’t understand why as it was another one of those pointless reactions that had no real purpose other than strike a kind of fear within the person who possessed the quality. Felicity was the opposite of shy, particularly when it came to talking to people, anyone. She wasn’t overly vocal generally because there often wasn’t any need to be, but she spoke her mind when she felt like it and it provided her with a form of entertainment in a strange sort of way depending on the circumstances. Shane offered her a hand, initiating the formal greeting process of which he must be accustomed to. Flick always found the hand shaking procedure to be a bit of a novelty, and couldn’t withhold the smirk that curled her lips once more as she pushed herself from her lying position so she sat upright and reached for his hand; which she grasped firmly and shook it once before releasing her grip.
Felicity caught the pained look upon the boy’s face, and wondered why it seemed to be becoming a more frequent occurrence around her of late. It wasn’t that she minded, in fact she rarely cared about the troubles that other people were dealing with deep within their soul, and even more rarely questioned anyone about the flash of emotion that crossed their face for the briefest of moments. She wasn’t convinced everyone had a soul anyway; there were too many heartless people in the world to truly believe they had soul deep inside them to show they actually had a conscience. Flick wasn’t quite there yet, but her soul (if she did indeed have one) would be blackened from the repetitive beatings it had been subjected to over the years, so on occasion it would seem that she did not have one at all. She didn’t care about that either; there was very little that Felicity cared about in the grand scheme of things, for in the end it was all pointless. Life was too short to be concerned about the little things such as what people thought of her, or the troubles that other people were suffering. It wasn’t her business, so she never inquired. It was only because people were so open about their personal life, that she learnt things that she would rather not know and would become pointless knowledge that she would never use in her reasonably short life. Mystery was a good characteristic and one that Flick stood by for the most part.
Flick crossed her legs underneath her, deciding that it would be a better position to be in if they were going to have a continued conversation, and that way she could watch what was going on around them as well. There was always something interesting going on elsewhere, and Flick prized herself on watching the minor misfortune of others, especially since the beach was a perfect place for such things to occur. Laughter rung out from all angles; children, parents, couples, were all having a blast in the sunshine, which all seemed a bit surreal to her. Flick was used to being surrounded by people who had their seamless lives, who were happy with what they had, with who they had, and here was Felicity, all alone. Well, she wasn’t really alone, it just felt like it a lot of the time. She had convinced herself that she liked it better that way, that other people were better without her too and so that was how she lived her life. People flicked into and out her life never to be seen again, and that was just fine. Shane would possibly come under that category in the end, even if they got on, became friends, they would go their separate ways eventually. Another thing that happened continuously throughout life, so why bother getting attached to anyone when there would come a time where she would never see them again? Everything was so pointless, and yet necessary. His question sparked her interest, wondering where he thought she lived, if her sudden development of freckles across her pale skin had not clicked to him that she was used to duller and more depressing weather. “Forks. You?” She asked indifferently, feigning interest in his own whereabouts in relation to La Push’s beach as it didn’t really matter where anybody came from unless she was planning on paying them a visit in the near future. Felicity understood though, that it was one of those things that were asked to strike up conversation, share information and make small talk. Again, Flick wasn’t much of a conversationalist and didn’t share anything more than necessary to anyone. Until she got to know a person, or rather they got to know her, her words were limited and brief sentences fuelled her speech. Simple and concise, that was the trick. I've felt the hate rise up in me Kneel down and clear the stone of leaves I wander out where you can't see Inside my mind, I wait and bleed Shane noticed the smirk dancing upon Flick's lips, while she took his hand and briefly shook it. As soon as she let go of his hand, he let it fall beside him and he heaved a little sigh. As a moment or two passed, his gaze drifted towards the waves again. He didn't know exactly what it was, but watching as the waves came in and hit the shore...before they faded out as quickly as they appeared, was soothing. Shane could feel the tension in his muscles slowly subside, while he sat there in the warm sand beside Flick. She seemed like a nice enough person, in his opinion. Shane slightly rolled his neck, stealing a brief glance. Who knows? Maybe they could eventually end up as friends. But for how long? Maybe she'll think that you're too complicated..and move on..., his inner voice whispered. He reached up, to run a hand through his hair. His inner voice could be right, it wouldn't be the first time. He bit his lip. What few friends he did have, back home, slowly pulled away from him..and didn't really talk to him since his mom's death. "Forks. You?" Flick's voice pulled his gaze back towards her and he took a deep breath. "Same." he responded, slightly nodding his head. He doesn't remember seeing Flick before now, since they apparently live in the same town. As a light breeze came and blew past, a brief silence fell. Shane glanced back at the rising waves, his mind slowly drifting a bit. He could see a few people's heads slowly bobbing around in the water - just above the surface.

how could this happen to me I’VE MADE MY MISTAKESFelicity watched him closely, her eyes rarely leaving his slight body movements that suggested there was something on his mind, which was further confirmed by the sigh that emitted from his lips. She didn’t understand why the people of Forks and La Push were so troubled, for it seemed almost everyone she had met had some issue or another, and it appeared Shane had his own as well. There was no such thing as normal and that became more and more evident each and every day as Flick watched strangers go about their business around her small town and outside of it. People with their faces cast down towards the dirt ridden ground, unable to look anyone in the eye. Those whose eyes were glistening with moisture as they put on a brave face for the world except the gathering tears give them away; and the kind of people that allow their anger to consume whatever is left of their empty shell of a body to attack anything in their path. All of them feeling alone, helpless, and yet unable to speak the truth to anyone else. Only there are the types who will implore a friend or relative to listen to things that they regret ever hearing because they’ll never see that person in the same way again. Nobody wins.
Flick certainly didn’t win; she never had done and expected that she never would do. It was yet another ‘normal’ aspect of her life, a constant that had always been in her life without change. She wondered what it was that was playing on Shane’s mind, he looked ordinary enough and if it weren’t for the subtle sighs and fleeting flashes of pain that cast across his eyes, then she would have believed it. She debated whether to question him, a sense of compassion setting into her usually indifferent personality and she cursed herself inwardly for failing to maintain her detachment from him. Honestly, she was torn between doing the natural thing of voicing her concern over another human being, and keeping her distance from his personal matters. “Are you alright? You seem…distracted.” Flick asked tentatively, hating herself a little for giving in so easily, of which she blamed her inability to hold quite so many emotions inside for a long period of time; something was bound to slip. She didn’t know if he would tell her anything anyway, and why did she care? It was human nature was it not to look out for one another to continue the survival of their race? Yet Felicity had done nothing of the sort up until now, so what had really changed?
She figured it was just because he seemed nice, friendly and nervous, that she felt the need to offer something to him. It was a bit of a surprise that they had been attending the same school and yet had no recollection of one another, which was more of a surprise as Forks high wasn’t exactly huge. Judging by his shy nature, Flick figured that she may have looked over him more than once at school, but did not truly notice him. She thought he would have at least heard about her somewhere along the lines, there were often rumours circulating around involving one or more of her activities within the school. In fact, she was almost made famous over the incident involving setting her biology classroom on fire, which should have seen her expulsion if her father had not bribed the school board. She had, of late, become lax in her efforts to get kicked out of the dull depressing school, which she fully intended on rectifying soon enough and make her name known around the school once more. It wasn’t that she enjoyed the attention, in fact she loathed it, but that was what came when her mind was not being stimulated in the right way and boredom set in. She had to liven things up on occasion, with the hope that she would never have to return to the high school again, but so far she hadn’t had any luck. Flick wondered what exactly her father had been bribing them with to keep her in attendance and without police supervision. Shane was perhaps entirely oblivious to what he could be getting involved with in befriending her, though maybe he needed to be a bit more reckless himself. I've felt the hate rise up in me Kneel down and clear the stone of leaves I wander out where you can't see Inside my shell, I wait and bleed Shane could feel himself being watched a little bit, so he has been trying to ignore it, knowing very well who it might be that's doing the watching. He could sense that Flick was not trying to be creepy about it, or was she? A light breeze blew past, ruffling his hair a bit. It felt good, like a small break in the constant feeling of heat from the sun. Shane took a deep breath, still somewhat watching the waves as they rolled in and back out. Flick did seem interesting enough, he couldn't remember if he saw her before at school or not. He could not be sure if he did, even though Forks High wasn't too big. His mind began to drift a bit, focusing on nothing in particular, then Flick's voice had slowly pulled him back. "Are you alright? You seem...distracted." He let a few moments pass, then shrugged his shoulders slightly. Shane wasn't sure if he should tell her the truth or maybe..keep it vague. He then decided on the latter, figuring that this was the first time they're meeting - there's no need to divulge it all yet. "I do? Well, I got a lot on my mind..." he then answered, keeping it simple. It wasn't like Shane was lying, he just played it off as 'no big deal' kind of thing. Shane does not want to get too close, too soon, or really at all. It seemed better that way. If he didn't get close, then he cannot really get hurt if he lost them. Right? "You know something. To be honest, you're the first person I've met since I moved into this town..." he admitted, still looking at the waves.

as I’m fading away I’M SICK OF THIS LIFEFelicity didn’t often mean to stare, unless she felt the need to purposely freak someone out, which was usually in response to an old biddy that disliked Flick’s smoking or attitude or to annoy a guy’s girlfriend. People were curious creatures and she simply enjoyed watching them. Everyone was fascinated by wild animals and some would even go out of their way to watch a particular species of interest, but they were often oblivious to the wildest animals of all; humans. They were the ones who performed the most unusual behaviours, as animals were generally the same; they ate, slept and reproduced depending on the circumstances. Humans on the other hand were emotionally tied, complicated and self destructive, which was perhaps worrying for they were the ones that ruled the earth. Emotions made everything more complex, they were strong, binding and impossible to be rid of. They built lives with happiness and love and destroyed them just as easily with jealousy and hatred; animals did not have that problem and were probably better off in a way. Felicity found emotions to be something she would be better off without as they only messed things up in the long run, and she half supposed Shane could be on a similar wavelength though only time would tell.
She released her eyes from him, fixating them elsewhere up the beach so view the families playing games and children building sandcastles; the perfect picture. It was a snap shot into the lives of all the people that had flocked to the sandy beach, though how much of it was real was unknown, as no one could see behind the shutters. Shane didn’t want to talk, answering her query with a mere shrug and a sentence that people used to let you know they weren’t going to spill the contents of their heart to just anybody. Acknowledging there was something wrong only because he was unable to deny the distant look in his eyes that Flick had already seen, nor the subtle pieces of body language that suggested his mind wasn’t wholly on the scenery. “Sure.” She shrugged, brushing off her brief moment of empathy, partially thankful that he wasn’t the type to divulge his problems to her on a first meeting unlike some of the people she had previously met. Flick wasn’t keen on pursuing personal matters, mostly because she honestly didn’t really care for the knowledge in the first place and didn’t intend on asking for details of which would be of no use to her. They say talking eases the burden, though that only suggested the burden is then placed on someone else as well as yourself and what good would come of that?
Flick laughed at his confession, she couldn’t help herself but out of all the people in Forks and La Push, she was the first person he had properly met. That perhaps would not bode well for the future as she hardly gave a great first impression, though she supposed she could be worse. At least he hadn’t met her at school as she was far from on her best behaviour when she was being force fed her education. “How is that possible? There are loads of people.” Flick smiled impishly, as unless he had literally only just moved today then it should have been impossible not to have spoken to anyone from Forks; it wasn’t a barren town or anything. “When did you move here, then?” Flick asked curiously, trying to find some explanation why she had never seen him around other than her lack of observation skills for the faces that passed her by in her town or school. She didn’t find it important to know every person in her class or down her street, she didn’t know the names of her neighbours, though she knew their faces well enough from peering out behind their curtains to see what trouble her dysfunctional family was causing in the front yard. People often blended into the background unless they made a particular impression on her, it wasn’t necessarily anyone who broke the rules or made an exhibition of themselves, but those who were genuine. Shane, she thought, was one of the latter. I've felt the hate rise up in me Kneel down and clear the stone of leaves I wander out, where you can't see Inside my shell, I wait and bleed Shane's copy of "On the Road" was laying there in the sand, beside him. He hasn't touched it, since he started talking to Flick, nor has he made an attempt to. Which is that kind of a good thing, since Shane normally tries to read whenever he gets a chance. He couldn't really help himself, he is a bit of a bookworm at heart. His mom raised him to be a reader, it's just that simple. He loves it. "Sure." Shane noticed Flick's shrug, he was somewhat thankful that she didn't try to pry the truth out of him. He was a little surprised that she had laughed, when he had told that she was the first person he met since he got here. A few moments came and went, he raised an eyebrow at Flick and bit his lip. Why is it funny? It's the truth. he then mused to himself. The only people that Shane has met...was a couple of people from work. "How is that possible? There are loads of people." He noticed Flick's smile, and a smirk touched his lips. "I barely leave the house, well except for work and what not.." he replied. Shane's usually a loner and tries to keep to himself most of the time. Today seems to be some sort of exception, though. "When did you move here, then?" Shane's smirk came back, it faded away a little before. "About a month..." he then answered. Would she believe him? Shane has yet to start at Forks High, his aunt said that he would - in about a day or two. 'You need to finish high school and get your dipolma, Shane...your mom would want that, dear..' His aunt's voice rang inside his head a bit, her tone calm and almost pleading. And not to mention, she brought his mother into the conversation.

everybody’s screaming I TRY TO MAKE A SOUND BUT NO-ONE HEARS MEHer mp3 player was forgotten about as Shane’s book was, the items lying discarded on the ground without much of a second thought. Flick’s escape from reality now taking a different through the young man who sat beside her; any distraction was a good one in her mind and it was perhaps better to be involved in conversation than blocking the world out with her music. It was a more sociable thing to do, normal; her father would be proud. The man strived to create the perfect daughter, the type who would become a ‘daddy’s girl’ and look up at him with adoring eyes and thank him every day for the blessed life he had given her. There was a fat chance of that ever happening as Felicity had instead turned out to be akin to the spawn of Satan to her father, which certainly didn’t make her the apple of his eye nor anyone else’s for that matter. She wasn’t that bad, not really. Yes she did reckless things, caused trouble and cared nothing for the consequences; but she was not currently serving time in a grotty prison cell with people who really were the devils child.
Shane looked the type who actually made his parents proud, his quiet nature and kind soul showed he wouldn’t harm anyone and if Felicity cared what anyone thought of her perhaps she would have been jealous. That didn’t make people unique though, as each person had a different set of traits with various degrees that determined their personality. His shyness kicked in again because she had laughed, something she hadn’t thought about and she realised she may have come across in the wrong way. Laughter could be cruel as a bully would laugh at their victim, or joyous as friends reminiscing an amusing moment. Felicity hadn’t intended to laugh, it just came out without her thinking about it as a lot of things did and because of that she had triggered some kind of insecurity in Shane. It never crossed her mind that he had yet to start at Forks High, as she assumed anyone who arrived new in Forks began their attendance on the next school day after their move. She wouldn’t know, Flick had lived in Forks her whole life, but it was often the trend she saw with the new arrivals.
Her brow furrowed, unable to understand why he would want to confine himself to his own home, though that was mostly because Flick could not stand to be in her own for longer than necessary. “Why not?” She asked softly, her head tilting ever so slightly to the side in curiosity. Ah, so he had only moved to Forks very recently, which explained why she hadn’t seen him around before. He didn’t know what he was missing if he had not fully experienced the joys of Forks and the thrill of high school, not that either had a lot to offer except a depressing atmosphere. “Ah, I see. Are you at the high school?” She questioned, wondering if her suspicions were true or if she really had been blind to his presence at her school for a whole month. I've felt the hate rise up in me Kneel down and clear the stone of leaves I wander out where you can't see Inside my shell, I wait and bleed "Why not?" Flick had asked him, when he said that he barely left his house since he moved here. A moment or two passed, as Shane gently bit his lip. He really isn't quite over his mother's death, mostly since he had watched it play out right before his eyes. He then took a deep breath, pushing it out of his mind for the moment. Shane isn't much of a fan of talking about it, so that's kinda out of the question. He gave Flick a slight shrug of his shoulders, before he spoke. "It's kinda complicated..." he answered, turning back to look at her. It was the truth, vaguely but still...it was the truth and Shane didn't want to go farther into it, unless she wanted to know. She doesn't seem to be the prying type. His book was lying there in the sand still, mostly forgotten..like Flick's mp3. "Ah, I see. Are you at the high school?" He cracked a half-smirk, then he answered her. "Yeah, I'll be starting there in a couple of days...as a junior.." he said, now wondering what year she is in school. OOC: Ok, not one of my best posts lol

i wanna start this over again I TRY TO HOLD ONTO A TIMESome people enjoyed the world and everything it offered, whether it was good or bad for them, like white water rafting or excessive drinking respectively; things that offered a sense of release from built up stress, angst or excessive energy. Everybody had their preferences, some favoured wallowing in their own misery and blocking out the world because sometimes it’s easier. Felicity and Shane were poles apart in some respects, though more similar than she realised. Everyone had their reasons for their actions. Flick shifted her body, sliding back down so she was lying on the warm sand once again. That way she was able to still focus on Shane, without seeing the people whom she had become bored of watching and only reminded her how different her family actually was.
”It’s kinda complicated. It always was; because life just wasn’t easy. “Complicated is my middle name.” She stated, turning her head towards him so her cheek rested on the sand, which would get everywhere anyway and didn’t see the point of trying to avoid the inevitable. A knowing smile curled her lips, as she only knew too well what it was like to live an abnormal life, full of complications that only ever seemed to get worse instead of better. She could tell he didn’t want to talk about it, whatever ‘it’ was; his answers were vague and showed his unwillingness to divulge anything to her. That was still fine by Flick, it wasn’t her business and he didn’t know her; after all Shane had said she was the first person he had met.
So, she had been right. Shane wasn’t at her school yet and soon she would be seeing him around amongst all the familiar faces she had known for years. At least he had a face that she would recognise; with his handsome and chiselled features Flick would easily be able to pick him out from the crowd as her eyes were naturally entrained to latch onto those who interested her visually. Of course personality was important, though less so with her flighty nature and lack of commitment to anyone who wanted to be her boyfriend. Flick didn’t do boyfriends, it just wasn’t her, and most of the school was well aware of that. Luckily for her, not many guys longed for commitment, especially during their teenage years as there was far too much living to accomplish before settling down. “Cool.” She smiled genuinely, wondering what he would hear from some of the other students on his arrival at the school, as rumours form the basis of the educational system and there were certainly plenty about her. “I’ll see you around then.” Flick gave Shane a mischievous wink before turning her head so she faced the sky, closing her eyes briefly and took in the combination of sounds that seemed to harmonise with each other although they were all so different. Opening her azure orbs, Flick looked over at Shane with a smirk on her face yet again. “You’ll have fun. It’s thrilling.” She responded with sarcasm lacing her soft voice, amused that he did not know what he would be letting himself in for once he started Forks high; the waffling teachers that put her to sleep on a daily basis and the occasional science lab fire were a couple of the many things that her high school offered.
