The University opened its doors in 1892 as the Washington Agricultural College and School of Science with 13 collegiate and 46 preparatory students. Over 100 years later it has become a nationally recognized research university with over 24,000 students worldwide. Located 466 miles (9 hour and 16 minute drive) from La Push and 450 miles (8 hours and 42 minute drive) from Forks, Washington State University is a popular choice among graduates of the area. The school's acclaimed academic programs boast a fourteen to one student teacher ratio. Approximately 17,580 students take up residence at the Pullman campus in Washington.
